About the Wisconsin Hill Day Workshop

In May of 2019, WCMT held its 9th Biennial Wisconsin Hill Day Workshop.  Both students and professionals were encouraged to attend the workshop, which was approved for 7 CMTE’s through the CBMT.  The workshop focused on the proposed state budget and how it would affect access to music therapy services.  Modeled after AMTA’s Hill Day Conference in Washington D.C., this workshop provided Wisconsin music therapists with the opportunity to learn advocacy techniques, learn how music therapy fits into the patchwork of state agencies and policies, and meet with State Senators and Representatives to communicate concerns relevant to our clients, namely funding and accessibility of music therapy services.Key music therapist facilitators at the workshop were Nancy Dexter-Schabow, MMT, MT-BC, WMTR, the WCMT Government Relations Committee Chair; and Judy Simpson, MT-BC, the Director of Government Relations for AMTA, & Dena Register, Ph.D, MT-BC.
