The Music Therapist plans, organizes, and directs medically prescribed music therapy activities as part of psychosocial and physical treatment of patients and their families to influence behavioral and psychological changes.

Description:
Develops treatment plan, using individualized needs assessment, depending on goal of therapy.
Instructs patients individually or in groups in prescribed instrumental or vocal music and music projective techniques such as guided imagery, progressive relaxation, or awareness of conscious feelings.
Studies and analyzes patients’ reactions to various experiences and adjusts care plan as needed.
Documents visits and other activities on VITAS documentation.
Participates in team meetings as requested.

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in music therapy from an accredited institution approved by American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).

QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of two (2) years prior relevant experience in a healthcare setting.
Hospice experience preferred.
Board certification (MT-BC) by certification board for music therapists (CBMT).

MTBC wanted for a small practice. The practice serves mainly children with varying challenges.  There are adults being served as well.

The therapist is required to plan, implement and document on the progress of the clients.  The caseload is varied and can involve some travel.

Education/Training Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in music therapy from colleges or university programs approved by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) or a master’s degree in dance or movement therapy from colleges and university programs approved by the American Dance Movement Therapist Association (ADTA) with certification/registration through the appropriate credentialing board required.
Registered Music or Dance Activity Therapist with the state of WI (DHS 6• 75) is required.

American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required within thirty (30) days of the date of hire, with annual re-certification.
