Job Description

Genesee Lake School now has an opening for a Music Therapist. This position will work two 8-hour shifts per week. Due to the limited number of hours available, this is not a benefit-eligible position. We are a private, employee owned residential and day school for students, ages 6-21, who are diagnosed with Neurodevelopmental Disorders and/or Complex Developmental Trauma Disorders. Our mission is to dare greatly by transforming the lives of our students, their families, and the employee owners who serve them.


  • Engages students in active learning and provides best practices in music instruction/therapy.
  • Exposing students to a variety of music instruments and resources—guitar, drums, recorders, etc.
  • Completes inventory of music supplies.
  • Collaborate with various departments and personnel to discuss music programming, specific student needs, and implementing individual treatment plans.
  • Assist in planning special events, such as the Holiday program, spring recognition ceremony, etc.
  • Provides direction and expectations to staff supporting music instruction to increase student engagement.
  • Monitors, uploads, and approves requested music for school iPod use.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $24.50 /hour



  • Must be at least 21
  • Bachelor’s degree and certification in Music Therapy or related field required.
  • Familiarity with music curriculum needs for differentiation of instruction to meet the varying needs of students across all assigned classrooms.
  • Experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Experience in working with students with autism, emotional disabilities, or intellectual disabilities is preferred.
  • Demonstrates an ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems.
  • Remains calm under pressure and maintains self-composure/self-control.
  • Effective working alone and also as a member of a team.
